Our Animals

Other than the fact that the baby the baby is due in 1 month, there is not news to share about him.  He is still kicking and laying against some nerves, making parts of my stomach feel like they are asleep.  I do not think he liked my hours this past week (76.25), but I figure it is easier to pick up hours before I have to find a babysitter for him!

Our animals, on the other hand have been keeping us on our toes.  After bragging about not seeing any mice for two weeks after getting the cat from my Grandparents, we caught two mice in the same day (and a couple more off and on since)!

Our cat has now discovered how to jump from the window sill to the counter- we wish there were some things she didn't learn to do!  She also has decided that 3 kids (one who is 7 and 2 who are around 2) are really scary, especially when there is nowhere to hide.  The older one came out when they were playing in the baby's room and said the cat was in the crib.  When I went in there, she was having difficulties getting out (still not sure if she had help getting in there, although it was denied).

We had a warmer day out (high 50s) and decided to grill (and play on Dan's new Kindle!).  We also decided to introduce the cat to the dog.  The dog seemed ok with the whole experience (but we were also holding on to him), the cat on the other hand acted very confused to be on the outside of the door!)

The other day, Dan and I were in the house looking out and saw a possum in our backyard and another in the front!  We soon realized that we have NO weapons (not even a baseball bat).  Our dog was just laying by one too!  Dan went out and told Ruxin to get it.  Ruxin perked up and started barking and trying to get the possum.  He failed in getting rid of the possum, but at least he treed it!  The next day Ruxin found the other possum (we only saw one this time) and was really barking at it, but these animals are vicious and was really quick at defending himself.  This match ended with only Ruxing getting some fur (hair?) off of the possum.  For the next couple days, we did not see any possum (thank you)!  Then, Ruxin saw him again (only one again) in the field behind our house.  This time we think he finally learned how to defend our house!  At first the possum put up a fight, but then appeared dead.  If the animal was just "playing possum", Ruxin did not care and kept picking it up, throwing it in the air and letting him drop while looking in the window to see if we were watching.  That night it snowed, so we are not sure if he drug it off or if it is still alive (and in pain).

Hopefully Ruxin can learn to attack animals that we don't like, but to be nice to the cat (as it would be nice if we could let her out some during nice weather).
